Dear reader,
I taught myself to paint portraits when I moved to Austin with no friends in 2013. I started with Virginia Woolf. She looked like a scary ghoul but honestly she’s been dead a long time so she doesn’t get a say.
Then I did some self-portraits (didn’t look like me but I had a cat in a backpack). THEN I tried to paint some men but they kept all looking like Michael Jackson so I didn’t paint men for years.
With every iteration, I made myself laugh, and I learned about how I see the world. Painting someone you love is a riot. It’s a gentle push on your creativity while paying tribute to your friendship, relationship, situationship, whatever!
Come give it a whirl. Put your phone on silent and disappear for a while. Snacks, discounted shopping, and drinks will be available. Can’t wait to see what we make! One last call for painting a partner class at Ponnopozz in Ravenswood on Wednesday 7-9!
xo,
Emma
